Il mezzitoni è la tecnica riprografica che simula immagini continue del tono attraverso l'utilizzo di puntini, variabili sia in dimensioni, in forma che in spaziatura, generando così un effetto gradiente. "Halftone" può anche essere utilizzato per fare riferimento specificamente all'immagine prodotta da questo processo. Quando le immagini a toni continui contengono una gamma infinita di colori o di grigi, il processo a mezzitoni riduce le riproduzioni visive ad un'immagine stampata con un solo colore di inchiostro, in punti di diversa dimensione.
