Le Lamiaceae o Labiatae sono una famiglia di piante fiorite. Tradizionalmente sono stati considerati strettamente correlati a Verbenaceae, ma negli anni '90, studi filogenetici suggerivano che molti generi classificati in Verbenaceae appartengono invece a Lamiaceae. La versione attualmente accettata di Verbenaceae non può essere più strettamente correlata a Lamiaceae rispetto ad alcune delle altre famiglie nell'ordine Lamiales. Non è ancora noto quale delle famiglie di Lamiales sia più vicino a Lamiaceae. La famiglia ha una distribuzione cosmopolita. La Lamiaceae ingrandita contiene circa 236 generi e 6.900 a 7.200 specie. I generi più grandi sono Salvia, Scutellaria, Stachys, Plectranthus, Hyptis, Teucrium, Vitex, Thymus e Nepeta. Clerodendrum era un genere di oltre 400 specie, ma entro il 2010 era stato ridotto a circa 150. Le piante sono spesso aromatiche in tutte le parti e includono molte erbe culinarie ampiamente usate, quali basilico, menta, rosmarino, salvia, salato, Mais, origano, issop, timo, lavanda e perilla. Alcuni sono arbusti; Alberi, come il teak; O, raramente, viti.
