Osteogenesi imperfetta
Osteogenesis imperfecta è un disturbo osseo congenito caratterizzato da ossa fragili che sono inclini a fratture. Le persone con OI sono nate con tessuto connettivo difettoso, o senza la capacità di farlo, di solito a causa di una carenza di collagene di tipo I. Possono essere distinti otto tipi di OI. La maggior parte dei casi sono causati da mutazioni nei geni COL1A1 e COL1A2. La diagnosi di OI si basa sulle caratteristiche cliniche e può essere confermata dal test di collagene o DNA. Non c'è cura per OI. Il trattamento è finalizzato ad aumentare la resistenza ossea complessiva per prevenire fratture e mantenere la mobilità. L'incidenza di OI è stimata a una per 20.000 nascite vive.
