L'avvento della radio nei primi anni del 1900 portò alla radiotelegrafia e ad altre forme di telegrafia wireless. Nell'era Internet, i mezzi telegrafici si sono sviluppati notevolmente in sofisticazione e facilità d'uso, con interfacce linguistiche naturali che nascondono il codice sottostante, consentendo tali tecnologie come posta elettronica e messaggistica istantanea.
