Edmund Husserl – niemiecki matematyk i filozof, jeden z głównych twórców fenomenologii. Studiował w Lipsku matematykę, fizykę, filozofię i astronomię. W 1876 roku kształcił się na Uniwersytecie Berlińskim, studiując filozofię i matematykę. W Wiedniu w 1881 roku uczęszczał na wykłady Franza Brentano, które wywarły duży wpływ na jego późniejszą filozofię. W 1883 roku uzyskał doktorat za pracę o rachunku wariacyjnym. Następnie był asystentem Karla Weierstrassa w Berlinie. Po odbyciu służby wojskowej studiował u Brentana w Wiedniu, gdzie poznał Karla Stumpfa. Pod kierunkiem Stumpfa habilitował się.
