Traktat jest porozumieniem w prawie międzynarodowym zawieranym przez podmioty prawa międzynarodowego, a mianowicie suwerenne państwa i organizacje międzynarodowe. Traktat może być również znany jako porozumienie, protokół, przymierze, konwencja, pakt lub wymiana listów, między innymi.
