Alexandre III da Macedônia, vulgarmente conhecido como Alexandre o Grande, era um rei do reino grega da Macedônia. Nascido em Pella em 356 aC, Alexandre sucedeu a seu pai, Filipe II, ao trono aos vinte anos. Ele passou a maior parte de seus anos de governo em uma campanha militar sem precedentes através da Ásia e nordeste da África, até aos trinta anos ele criou um dos maiores impérios do mundo antigo, que se estendeu da Grécia para o Egito e para o atual Paquistão. Ele foi invicto na batalha e é considerado um dos comandantes mais bem sucedidos da história. Durante a sua juventude, Alexandre foi atormentado pelo filósofo Aristóteles até os 16 anos de idade. Em 334 aC, ele invadiu o império aquemênida, governou a Ásia Menor e iniciou uma série de campanhas que duraram dez anos.
