Na lógica e na filosofia, um argumento é uma tentativa de persuadir alguém de algo, dando razões para aceitar uma conclusão particular como evidente. A forma geral de um argumento em linguagem natural é a das premissas em apoio de uma reivindicação: a conclusão. A estrutura de alguns argumentos também pode ser estabelecida em uma linguagem formal, e os "argumentos" formalmente definidos podem ser feitos independentemente de argumentos de linguagem natural, como em matemática, lógica e ciência da computação. Em um argumento dedutivo típico, as premissas são destinadas a fornecer uma garantia da verdade da conclusão, enquanto que em um argumento indutivo, eles são pensados para fornecer razões que apoiem a verdade provável da conclusão.
