Barasingha
O barasingha, também chamado veado de pântano, é uma espécie de veado distribuída no subcontinente indiano. Populações no norte e centro da Índia são fragmentadas, e duas populações isoladas ocorrem no sudoeste do Nepal. Está extinto no Paquistão e em Bangladesh. O nome específico comemora o naturalista francês Alfred Duvaucel. O cervo do pântano difere de todas as espécies de cervos indianos, na medida em que os chifres carregam mais de três dentes. Por causa desse caractere distintivo, ele é designado barasingha, que significa "doze tons". Os veados maduros têm 10 a 14 dentes, e alguns sabem ter até 20. Em Assamês, barasingha é chamado dolhorina; pântano significado dol. No centro da Índia, é chamado de goinjak ou gaoni.
