Flutuabilidade
Na ciência, a flutuabilidade /bɔɪ.ənsi/ é uma força ascendente exercida por um fluido que se opõe ao peso de um objeto imerso. Em uma coluna de fluido, a pressão aumenta com a profundidade como resultado do peso do fluido sobrepente. Assim, uma coluna de fluido, ou um objeto submerso no fluido, apresenta maior pressão no fundo da coluna do que na parte superior. Essa diferença de pressão resulta em uma força líquida que tende a acelerar um objeto para cima. A magnitude dessa força é proporcional à diferença na pressão entre o topo e o fundo da coluna, e também é equivalente ao peso do fluido que de outra forma ocuparia a coluna, isto é, o fluido deslocado. Por esse motivo, um objeto cuja densidade é maior do que o fluido em que está submersa tende a afundar. Se o objeto for menos denso do que o líquido ou for moldado adequadamente, a força pode manter o objeto à tona. Isso pode ocorrer apenas em um quadro de referência que possui um campo gravitacional ou está acelerando devido a uma força diferente da gravidade que define uma direção "para baixo".
