Dominância (genética)
Dominância na genética é uma relação entre os alelos de um gene, em que um alelo é expresso em um segundo alelo no mesmo local. O primeiro alelo é dominante e o segundo alelo é recessivo. Para os genes em um autônomo, os alelos e seus traços associados são autosomais dominantes ou autossômicos recessivos. Dominância é um conceito chave na herança mendeliana e genética clássica. Muitas vezes, o alelo dominante codifica uma proteína funcional, enquanto o alelo recessivo não. Um exemplo clássico de dominância é a herança da forma de semente em ervilhas. As ervilhas podem ser redondas ou enrugadas. Neste caso, são possíveis três combinações de alelos: RR, Rr e rr. Os indivíduos RR têm ervilhas redondas e os indivíduos rr têm ervilhas enrugadas. Em indivíduos Rr, o alelo R mascara a presença do alelo r, então esses indivíduos também possuem ervilhas redondas. Assim, o alelo R é dominante para o alelo r, e o alelo r é recessivo ao alelo R.
