Cerimônia de louvor
Uma cerimônia de elogio é uma cerimônia formal que evoluiu durante o primeiro período medieval para criar um vínculo entre um senhor e seu lutador, chamado seu vassalo. A primeira cerimônia registrada de commendatio foi na França do século 7, mas a relação de vassalagem era mais antiga e antecedeu até mesmo as formulações medievais de uma classe nobre. O "homem" do senhor pode nascer de forma livre, mas a comemoração o libertou. Quando dois homens entraram em uma relação feudal, eles foram submetidos a uma cerimônia conhecida como cerimônia de louvor. O objetivo do elogio era fazer de uma pessoa escolhida um vassalo de um senhor. A cerimônia de louvor é composta por dois elementos, um para realizar o ato de homenagem e o outro um juramento de fidelidade. Em alguns países, como o Reino da Sicília, a cerimônia de elogio passou a ser referida como investidura.
