Dissociação (química)

A dissociação em química e bioquímica é um processo geral em que compostos iónicos se separam ou dividem em partículas, íons ou radicais menores, geralmente de forma reversível. Por exemplo, quando um ácido de Brønsted-Lowry é colocado em água, uma ligação covalente entre um átomo eletronegativo e um átomo de hidrogênio é quebrada por fissão heterólitica, que dá um íon protônico e negativo. A dissociação é o oposto da associação e recombinação. O processo é freqüentemente confundido com a ionização.
