Laço
Um lasso, também conhecido como um lariat, riata ou reata, é um laço de corda projetado como uma restrição para ser jogado em torno de um alvo e apertado quando puxado. É uma ferramenta bem conhecida do vaqueiro americano. A palavra também é um verbo; para atacar é jogar o laço de uma corda em torno de algo. Embora a ferramenta tenha vários nomes próprios, esses termos raramente são empregados por aqueles que realmente o usam; quase todos os cowboys simplesmente chamam de "corda", e o uso de tal "roping". Para a maioria dos vaqueiros, o uso de outros termos - especialmente "lasso" - identifica o usuário como leigo. Um lariat é feito de corda rígida para que o cabo permaneça aberto quando o laço é jogado. Também permite que o vaqueiro facilmente abra a corda do cavalo para libertar o gado porque a corda é rígida o suficiente para ser empurrada um pouco.
