O novo jornalismo era um estilo de escrita de notícias dos anos 60 e 70 e jornalismo que usava técnicas literárias consideradas não convencionais na época. O termo foi codificado com o seu significado atual por Tom Wolfe em uma coleção de 1973 de artigos de jornalismo publicado em The New Journalism, que incluiu obras por ele próprio, Truman Capote, Hunter S. Thompson, Norman Mailer, Joan Didion, Robert Christgau, Gay Talese e outros. Os artigos no estilo do Novo Jornalismo tendem a não ser encontrados nos jornais, mas em revistas como The Atlantic Monthly, Harper's, CoEvolution Quarterly, Esquire, New York, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone e por um curto período no início dos anos 1970 , Scanlan's Monthly.
