Na física e outras ciências, um sistema não-linear, em contraste com um sistema linear, é um sistema que não satisfaz o princípio de superposição - o que significa que a saída de um sistema não-linear não é diretamente proporcional à entrada. Em matemática, um sistema não linear de equações é um conjunto de equações simultâneas nas quais as incógnitas aparecem como variáveis de um polinômio de grau superior a um ou no argumento de uma função que não é um polinômio de grau um. Em outras palavras, em um sistema não-linear de equações, a equação a ser resolvida não pode ser escrita como uma combinação linear das variáveis ou funções desconhecidas que aparecem nele. Não importa se as funções conhecidas não-lineares aparecem nas equações. Em particular, uma equação diferencial é linear se for linear em termos da função desconhecida e suas derivadas, mesmo que não linear em termos das demais variáveis que apareçam nele. Normalmente, o comportamento de um sistema não-linear é descrito por um sistema de equações não-linear.
