Pidgin
Um pidgin / pɪdʒɨn /, ou linguagem pidgin, é uma versão simplificada de um idioma que se desenvolve como um meio de comunicação entre dois ou mais grupos que não possuem um idioma em comum. É mais comum em situações como o comércio, ou onde ambos os grupos falam idiomas diferentes da língua do país em que residem. Fundamentalmente, um pidgin é um meio simplificado de comunicação linguística, já que é construído impromptu, ou por convenção, entre indivíduos ou grupos de pessoas. Um pidgin não é o idioma nativo de qualquer comunidade de fala, mas é aprendido como segunda língua. Um pidgin pode ser construído a partir de palavras, sons ou linguagem corporal de vários outros idiomas e culturas. Pidgins permite que pessoas ou um grupo de pessoas se comuniquem sem ter semelhanças na linguagem. Pidgins geralmente tem baixo prestígio em relação a outras línguas. Nem todos os formulários simplificados ou "quebrados" de uma linguagem são pidgins. Cada pidgin tem suas próprias normas de uso, que devem ser aprendidas para proficiência no pidgin.
