Som estereofônico
O som estereofônico ou, mais comumente, o estéreo, é um método de reprodução de som que cria uma ilusão de direcionalidade e perspectiva audível. Isso geralmente é conseguido usando dois ou mais canais de áudio independentes através de uma configuração de dois ou mais alto-falantes de forma a criar a impressão de som ouvido por várias direções, como na audição natural. Assim, o termo "estereofónico" aplica-se aos chamados sistemas "quadrafônico" e "som surround", bem como os sistemas de dois altifalantes de dois canais mais comuns. Muitas vezes, é contrastado com o som monofônico ou "mono", onde o áudio é na forma de um canal, muitas vezes centrado no campo de som. O som estéreo agora é comum nos sistemas de entretenimento, como transmissão de rádio e TV, música gravada e cinema. A palavra estereofônica deriva do grego "στερεός", "firme, sólido" + "φωνή", "som, tom, voz" e foi cunhado em 1927 pela Western Electric, por analogia com a palavra "estereoscópica".
