Sínodo
Um sínodo / sɪnəd / historicamente é um conselho de uma igreja, geralmente convocado para decidir uma questão de doutrina, administração ou aplicação. No uso moderno, a palavra freqüentemente se refere ao órgão de governo de uma igreja particular, se seus membros estão reunidos ou não. Também às vezes é usado para se referir a uma igreja que é governada por um sínodo. A palavra "sínodo" vem do grego "σύνοδος" que significa "assembléia" ou "reunião", e é sinônimo da palavra latina "concilium" que significa "conselho". Originalmente, os sínodos eram reuniões de bispos, e a palavra ainda é usada nesse sentido no catolicismo e na ortodoxia oriental. Às vezes, a frase "sínodo geral" ou "conselho geral" refere-se a um conselho ecumênico. A palavra "sínodo" também se refere ao conselho permanente de bispos de alto escalão que governa algumas das autófeas igrejas ortodoxas orientais. Do mesmo modo, a governança do dia a dia das igrejas patriarcais e principais igrejas católicas do archiepiscopal são confiadas a um sínodo permanente.
