Un adjudecator este cineva care prezidează, judecă și arbitrează în timpul unei dispute formale. Termenul adjudecator înseamnă în esență un judecător, fără a invoca termenul legal. Ombudsmanul este un tip de adjudecator în administrația locală din Regatul Unit. Un exemplu de adjudecator este persoana care face o hotărâre preliminară cu privire la o cerere de asigurare de șomaj. Un adjudecator ia o decizie inițială de a nu păstra cauza în instanță. Deși decizia adjudecătorului nu are aceeași greutate juridică, un adjudecător a luat încă o decizie ca și un judecător.
