Mapuche sunt un grup de locuitori indigeni din sud-centrul Chile și sud-vestul Argentinei, inclusiv părți din Patagonia de astăzi. Termenul colectiv se referă la o etnie largă, compusă din diferite grupuri care împărtășesc o structură socială, religioasă și economică comună, precum și o moștenire lingvistică comună în calitate de vorbitori de Mapudungun. Influența lor sa extins odată de la râul Aconcagua până la Arhipelagul Chiloé și sa răspândit mai târziu spre est pampa argentiniană. Astăzi, grupul colectiv reprezintă 80% din populațiile indigene din Chile, iar aproximativ 9% din populația totală a Chilienei sunt concentrate în special în Araucanía. Mulți au migrat în zona Santiago pentru oportunități economice. Termenul Mapuche este utilizat atât pentru a se referi colectiv la Picunche, Huilliche și Moluche sau Nguluche din Araucanía, fie în alte momente, exclusiv la Moluche sau Nguluche din Araucanía.
