Comparativ
În lingvistică, comparativul este o construcție sintactică care servește pentru a exprima o comparație între două entități sau grupuri de entități în calitate, cantitate sau grad; este unul dintre gradele de comparație, alături de pozitiv și superlativ. Comparativul este semnalat în limba engleză prin sufixul -er sau printr-un cuvânt de comparație și prin cuvântul de conjuncție sau preposition similar sau decât. Comparatorul este adesea asociat cu adjective și adverbe deoarece aceste cuvinte iau sufixul -er sau modifică cuvântul mai mult sau mai puțin; poate totuși să apară atunci când nu există un adjectiv sau un adverb, de exemplu cu substantive. Sintaxa construcțiilor comparative este puțin înțeleasă datorită complexității datelor. În special, comparativ apare frecvent cu mecanisme independente de sintaxă, cum ar fi coordonarea și formele de elipsă. Interacțiunea dintre diferitele mecanisme complică analiza. Majoritatea, dacă nu toate limbile, au niște mijloace de formare a comparativului, deși aceste mijloace pot varia semnificativ de la o limbă la alta.

I went to college at Harvard, then did three years of graduate school at Yale. At both places I studied comparative literature. People find it odd that I went to both Harvard and Yale, and I guess it is odd, but that's just what people did where I grew up.
I then endeavoured to show that it is more especially in the thorough conformity with law which natural phenomena and natural products exhibit, and in the comparative ease with which laws can be stated, that this difference exists.
Juggling many projects and having all these accidental collisions that you can't predict enables a kind of comparative thinking. To focus on a single project from beginning to end is extremely difficult, not just for me, but for many people.
