În astronomia modernă, o constelație este o zonă definită pe plan internațional a sferei celeste. Aceste zone sunt grupate în jurul asterismelor, care sunt modele formate de stele proeminente în apropierea aparentă una față de alta pe cerul de noapte al Pământului. Când astronomii spun că un obiect este "în" o anumită constelație, înseamnă că este în limitele uneia dintre aceste zone definite de cer.
