În mitologia greacă, Daphnis a fost un păstor sicilian despre care sa spus că este inventatorul poeziei pastorale. Conform tradiției, el era fiul lui Hermes și o nimfă, în ciuda căruia Dafniș însuși era muritor. Daphnis este, de asemenea, descris și arătat ca un eromen. Mama sa a spus că l-au expus sub un lăstar, unde a fost găsit de păstori și numit după pomul sub care a fost găsit.
