Exploatarea este folosirea unei persoane sau a unui lucru într-o manieră nedreaptă sau crudă sau, în general, ca un mijloc de a-ți atinge scopurile. Cel mai adesea, cuvântul exploatare este folosit pentru a face referire la exploatarea economică; adică actul de a folosi o altă persoană ca mijloc de a-și câștiga profitul, în special prin folosirea muncii lor, fără a le oferi o retribuție corectă. Există două perspective majore asupra exploatării economice: ▪ Exploatarea organizațională sau "micro-nivel": majoritatea teoriilor exploatării centrează pe puterea de piață a organizațiilor economice în cadrul unei piețe. Unele teorii neoclasice indică exploatarea care nu se bazează pe puterea de piață. ▪ Exploatarea structurală sau "macro-nivel": se axează pe exploatarea de către mari părți a societății, chiar și în contextul piețelor libere. Teoria marxistă indică întreaga clasă capitalistă ca o entitate exploatantă, iar capitalismul ca un sistem bazat pe exploatare.
