Zona intertidală
Zona intertidală, cunoscută și sub denumirea de coastă și litoral și uneori menționată ca zona litorală, este zona care este deasupra apei la reflux și sub apă la maree. Această zonă poate include multe tipuri diferite de habitate, cu multe tipuri de animale, cum ar fi steaua de mare, urnele de mare și numeroasele specii de corali. Zona bine-cunoscută include, de asemenea, stânci abrupte stâncoase, plaje nisipoase sau zone umede. Zona poate fi o fâșie îngustă, ca și în insulele din Pacific, care au doar o distanță mică de maree sau pot include mai mulți metri de țărm, unde pantele superficiale ale plajei interacționează cu excursia mareelor.
