Hinterlandul este terenul sau cartierul din spatele unei coaste sau al țărmului unui râu. Mai exact, prin doctrina hinterlandului, cuvântul este aplicat regiunii interioare situată în spatele unui port, revendicată de statul care deține coasta. Zona din care produsele sunt livrate într-un port de transport maritim în altă parte este portul respectiv. Termenul este utilizat și pentru a se referi la zona din jurul unui oraș sau oraș.
