Lumea vieții poate fi concepută ca un univers al ceea ce este evident sau dat, o lume pe care subiecții o pot experimenta împreună. Pentru Husserl, lumea vieții este fundamentul tuturor anchetelor epistemologice. Conceptul își are originea în biologia și protestantismul cultural. Conceptul de viață din lume este folosit în filosofie și în unele științe sociale, în special în sociologie și antropologie. Conceptul subliniază o stare de lucruri în care lumea este experimentată, lumea trăiește. Lumea vieții este o piatră de temelie pre-epistemologică pentru analiza fenomenologică în tradiția husserliană.
