Manumisiune
Manumission este actul unui proprietar de sclavi care își eliberează sclavii. Au fost dezvoltate diferite abordări, fiecare specific momentului și locului sistemului sclav al unei societăți. Motivațiile proprietarilor de sclavi în sclavii de muncă erau complexe și variate. În primul rând, manusiunea se poate prezenta ca un gest sentimental și binevoitor. Un scenariu tipic a fost eliberarea în voia comandantului a unui slujitor devotat după mulți ani de serviciu. Acest gen de manuscrisă era, în general, limitat la sclavi care aveau un anumit grad de intimitate cu stăpânii lor, cum ar fi cei care slujeau în calitate de îngrijitori personali, slujitori de uz casnic, secretari și alții. În unele cazuri, maestrul și sclavul au avut o relație sexuală pe termen lung. Proprietarii au eliberat uneori femeia și copiii născuți din astfel de relații.
