Muhammad Ali din Egipt
Muhammad Ali Pasha al-Mas'ud ibn Agha a fost un comandant albanez otoman în armata otomană, care a devenit Wāli și a fost declarat Kadim de Egipt și Sudan cu aprobarea temporară a otomanei. Deși nu este un naționalist modern, el este considerat fondatorul Egiptului modern din cauza reformelor dramatice din sfera militară, economică și culturală pe care a instituit-o. El a condus de asemenea teritoriile Levantine din afara Egiptului. Dinastia pe care a stabilit-o va conduce Egiptul și Sudanul până la Revoluția egipteană din 1952 condusă de Muhammad Naguib.
