Un reclamant de conștiință este o "persoană care a revendicat dreptul de a refuza să efectueze serviciul militar" pe baza libertății de gândire, conștiință și / sau religie. În general, statutul de opoziție de conștiință este considerat doar în contextul conscrierii militare și nu este aplicabil forțelor militare voluntare. În unele țări, refugiații de conștiință sunt desemnați unui serviciu civil alternativ ca înlocuitor al serviciului de recrutare sau militar. Unii refugiați de conștiință se consideră pacifisti, neintervențiști, nerezistenți sau antimilitici.
