Definiție ostensivă
O definiție ostensivă transmite sensul unui termen prin arătarea unor exemple. Acest tip de definiție este adesea folosit în cazul în care termenul este dificil de definit verbal, fie pentru că nu vor fi înțelese cuvintele, nici datorită naturii termenului. De obicei este însoțită de un gest care indică obiectul servind drept exemplu și din acest motiv este adesea denumit și "definiție prin îndreptare". Definițiile ostentative se bazează pe un raționament analogic sau bazat pe caz pe obiectul la care sunt destinate. De exemplu, definirea "roșu" prin evidențierea obiectelor roșii - mere, semne de oprire, trandafiri - oferă o definiție ostentativă, așa cum se numește. Definiția osoasă presupune că solicitantul are o înțelegere suficientă pentru a recunoaște tipul de informație oferită. Ludwig Wittgenstein scrie: Așa se poate spune: definiția ostensivă explică folosirea - înțelesul - cuvântului atunci când rolul general al cuvântului în limbă este clar. Astfel, dacă știu că cineva vrea să-mi explice un cuvânt de culoare, definiția ostentativă "Asta se numește" sepia "" mă va ajuta să înțeleg cuvântul ...
