Un stimulator cardiac este un dispozitiv medical care utilizează impulsuri electrice, livrate de electrozi care contractează mușchii inimii, pentru a regla bătăile inimii. Scopul principal al unui stimulator cardiac este să mențină o frecvență cardiacă adecvată, fie pentru că pacemaker-ul natural al inimii nu este suficient de rapid sau există un blocaj în sistemul de conducere electric al inimii. Stimulatoarele moderne sunt programabile din exterior și permit cardiologului să selecteze modurile optime de stimulare pentru pacienții individuali. Unele combină un stimulator cardiac și un defibrilator într-un singur dispozitiv implantabil. Alții au electrozi multipli care stimulează poziții diferite în inimă pentru a îmbunătăți sincronizarea camerelor inferioare ale inimii.
