Pater familias
Familia pater, scrisă și ca paterfamilias, era capul unei familii romane. Paterfamiliasul era cel mai vechi bărbat viu dintr-o gospodărie, avea control total asupra tuturor membrilor familiei până a murit. Odată ce paterfamiliile au murit, următorul bărbat cel mai vechi ar avea apoi control. Termenul este latin pentru "tatăl familiei" sau "proprietarul familiei".
