Quadric
În matematică, o suprafață quadrică sau cvadrică, orice suprafață D-dimensională este în spațiu -dimensional definit ca locusul de zerouri ai unui polinom patrat. În coordonate, quadricul general este definit prin ecuația algebrică care poate fi scrisă compact în notația vectorului și matricei ca: unde x = este un vector de rând, xT este transpunerea lui x, Q este o matrice × și P este o dimensiune vectorul vectorului și R este o constantă scalară. Valorile Q, P și R sunt adesea considerate a fi numere reale sau numere complexe, dar de fapt, un quadric poate fi definit pe orice inel. În general, locusul de zero al unui set de polinoame este cunoscut ca o varietate algebrică și este studiat în ramura geometriei algebrice. Un quadric este astfel un exemplu de varietate algebrică.
