Termenul Redneck este folosit în principal pentru o persoană albă rurală săracă din Statele Unite din sud. Acesta poate fi un termen de slang defavorabil asemănător înțeles cu un cracker, un hillbilly și un gunoi alb. În 1975, spun Chapman și Kipfer, termenul sa extins în sens dincolo de săraciul sud, pentru a se referi la "o persoană de mare și obișnuită, un ultra-conservator loutish". Este adesea folosit pentru a ataca conservatorii albi din sud. Termenul este, de asemenea, utilizat în general pentru a degrada clasa muncitoare și albii rurali, percepuți de progresivii urbani ca fiind insuficient liberali.
