Mstislav Rostropovici
Mstislav Leopoldovici Rostropovici, KBE, a fost un violoncelist și dirijor sovietic și rus. El este considerat de mulți că a fost cel mai mare violonist al celei de-a doua jumătăți a secolului al XX-lea și unul dintre cele mai mari din toate timpurile. Pe lângă interpretările și tehnicile sale, el era bine cunoscut atât pentru inspirarea, cât și pentru punerea în funcțiune a unor noi lucrări, care lărgeau repertoriul violoncel mai mult decât orice violoncel înainte sau de atunci. A dat premiere de peste 100 de piese, formând prietenii de lungă durată și parteneriate artistice cu compozitori, printre care Dmitri Șostakovici, Serghei Prokofiev, Henri Dutilleux, Witold Lutoslawski, Olivier Messiaen, Luciano Berio, Krzysztof Penderecki, Alfred Schnittke, Norbert Moret, Andreas Makris și Benjamin Britten. Rostropovici a fost recunoscut pe plan internațional drept un avocat ferm al drepturilor omului și a primit premiul din 1974 al Ligii Internaționale a Drepturilor Omului. A fost căsătorit cu soprana Galina Vișevskaia și avea două fiice, Olga și Elena Rostropovici.
