Bombax
Bombax este un gen de copaci tropicali, în principal, din familia malurilor. Ele sunt native din Africa de Vest, subcontinentul indian, Asia de Sud-Est, precum și regiunile sub-tropicale din Asia de Est și Australia de Nord. Distingeți de genul Ceiba, care are flori mai albe. Denumirile comune pentru genul includ bumbac de mătase, bumbac simal, bumbac roșu, kapok și pur și simplu bombax. În limba chineză sunt cunoscute sub numele de "Mumian", adică "bumbac de copac". În prezent, patru specii sunt recunoscute, deși multe plante au fost plasate în genul care au fost mutate ulterior. Genul este cel mai bine cunoscut pentru specia B. ceiba, cultivată pe scară largă în regiunile tropicale și subtropicale ale lumii. Este nativ din sudul și estul Asiei și din nordul Australiei. Speciile Bombax sunt folosite ca plante alimentare de către larvele unor specii de Lepidoptera, incluzând frunzele minerale Bucculatrix crateracma care se hrănesc exclusiv cu Bombax ceiba. Arborele apare pe pavilionul Guineei Ecuatoriale.
