Sioux
Sioux / suː / sunt oameni nativi americani și primii națiuni din America de Nord. Termenul se poate referi la orice grup etnic din Marea Națiune Sioux sau la oricare dintre numeroasele dialecte ale limbii națiunii. Siouxul cuprinde trei diviziuni principale bazate pe dialectul și subcultura Siouan: Santee, Yankton-Yanktonai și Lakota. Santee, numită și Dakota de Est, se află în extremitatea estică a Dakotas, Minnesota și nordul Iowei. Yankton și Yanktonai, denumite în mod colectiv și Dakota de Vest sau endonymous Wičhíyena, locuiesc în zona râului Minnesota. Ele sunt considerate a fi mijlocul Sioux, iar în trecut au fost clasificate eronat ca Nakota. Lakota, numită și Teton, este cel mai vestic Sioux, cunoscut pentru cultura lor de vânătoare și războinică. Astăzi, Sioux menține multe guverne tribale separate împrăștiate în mai multe rezerve, comunități și rezerve în Dakotas, Nebraska, Minnesota și Montana în Statele Unite; și Manitoba și sudul Saskatchewan în Canada.
