Socialismul este un sistem social și economic caracterizat prin proprietatea socială a mijloacelor de producție și a managementului cooperativ al economiei [1] [2], precum și o teorie și mișcare politică care vizează stabilirea unui astfel de sistem [ 3] [4] "Proprietatea socială" se poate referi la întreprinderi cooperative, proprietate comună, proprietate de stat, proprietate asupra capitalului propriu al cetățenilor sau orice combinație a acestora [5]. Există multe soiuri de socialism și nu există o definiție unică încapsulând toate acestea. [6] Acestea diferă în ceea ce privește tipul de proprietate socială pe care o susțin, gradul în care acestea se bazează pe piețe sau planificare, modul în care trebuie să fie organizate conducerea în cadrul instituțiilor productive și rolul statului în construirea socialismului [7]. Un sistem economic socialist se bazează pe precepția organizatorică a producției pentru utilizare, adică producția de bunuri și servicii pentru satisfacerea directă a cererii economice și a nevoilor umane atunci când obiectele sunt evaluate pe baza valorii lor de folosire sau utilitate, spre deosebire de structurarea acumularea de capital și producția pentru profit.
