În biologie, un spor este o unitate de reproducere asexuală care poate fi adaptată pentru dispersare și supraviețuire, adesea pentru perioade lungi de timp, în condiții nefavorabile. Prin contrast, gameții sunt unități de reproducere sexuală. Sporii fac parte din ciclurile de viață ale multor plante, algelor, fungiilor și protozoarelor. În bacterii, sporii nu fac parte dintr-un ciclu sexual, ci sunt structuri rezistente folosite pentru supraviețuire în condiții nefavorabile. Sporii sunt, de obicei, haploizi și unicelulari și sunt produși prin meioză în sporangiul unui sporofit diploid. În condiții favorabile, sporul se poate dezvolta într-un organism nou care utilizează diviziunea mitotică, producând o gametofită multicelurabilă, care în cele din urmă continuă să producă gameți. Două gamete fuzionează pentru a forma un zigot care se dezvoltă într-un nou sporofit. Acest ciclu este cunoscut ca alternanța generațiilor. Sporii plantelor de sămânță sunt însă produși pe plan intern, iar megaspoele, formate în ovule și microspore, sunt implicate în formarea unor structuri mai complexe care formează unitățile de dispersare, semințele și boabele de polen.

Prima definitie a sporii din dicționar este un corp de reproducere, produs de bacterii, ciuperci, plante diferite și unele protozoane, care se dezvoltă într-un individ nou. Un spor sexual se formează după fuziunea jocurilor și un spor spontan este rezultatul reproducerii asexuate. O altă definiție a sporii este o celulă de germeni, o sămânță, o bacterie latentă sau un organism similar. Sporul este, de asemenea, pentru a produce, transporta sau elibera spori.
