talc
Talc este un mineral compus din silicat de magneziu hidratat cu formula chimică H2Mg34 sau Mg3Si4O102. În formă liberă, este substanța pe scară largă cunoscută sub denumirea de pulbere de talc. Apare ca foliată la masele fibroase și într-o formă de cristal excepțional de rare. Are o scindare bazală perfectă, iar foile sunt neelastice, deși ușor flexibile. Este cel mai slab mineral cunoscut și este enumerat ca 1 pe scara de duritate Mohs. Poate fi zgâriat cu ușurință de un unghi. Este, de asemenea, sectile. Are o greutate specifică de 2,5-2,8, un luciu clar sau praf și este translucid la opac. Talcul nu este solubil în apă, dar este ușor solubil în acizii minerali diluanți. Culoarea sa variază de la alb la gri sau verde și are o senzație de grasime distinctă. Liniile sale sunt albe. Soapstone este o rocă metamorfică compusă predominant din talc.
