O rotire în mișcare se referă la efectuarea unei rotații de 180 de grade pentru a inversa direcția de deplasare. Se numește o "întoarcere", deoarece manevra arată ca litera U. În unele zone, manevra este ilegală, în timp ce în altele, este tratată ca o rundă mai obișnuită, pur și simplu extinsă. În încă alte zone, benzi sunt marcate ocazional "U-turn permis" sau chiar "U-turn numai". Ocazional, pe o autostradă divizată, există rampă specială pentru a permite traficului să facă o întoarcere, deși utilizarea lor este adesea limitată doar la vehiculele de urgență și poliție. În Statele Unite, regulamentul U-turn variază în funcție de stat: în Indiana U-turnurile sunt permise atâta timp cât conducătorul auto respectă toate măsurile de precauție care sunt atribuite în mod obișnuit unei rotații din stânga. Multe locuri, inclusiv Texas și Georgia, au benzi special amenajate. În Michigan, U-turnurile sunt necesare pentru multe turnuri stânga spre și de la autostrăzi împărțite, ca parte a manevrei Stânga Michigan. Poate fi folosit și pentru a însemna o inversare bruscă a politicii în politică.
