John Vanbrugh
Sir John Vanbrugh (24 ianuarie 1664 (botezat) - 26 martie 1726) a fost un arhitect și dramaturg englez, cel mai bine cunoscut sub numele de designer al Palatului Blenheim și al Castelului Howard. A scris două comedii de restaurare argumentative și deschise, The Relapse (1696) și The Provoked Wife (1697), care au devenit favorite ale scenei, dar inițial au provocat multe controverse. El a fost întitulat în 1714. Vanbrugh a fost în multe sensuri un radical pe toată durata vieții sale. Fiind un tânăr și un Whig angajat, el a făcut parte din schema de răsturnare a lui James al II-lea, a pus pe William al III-lea pe tron și a protejat democrația parlamentară engleză și a fost închis de către francezi ca prizonier politic.
