Allelopati
Allelopati, bir organizmanın diğer organizmaların büyümesini, hayatta kalmasını ve üremesini etkileyen bir veya daha fazla biyokimyasal ürettiği biyolojik bir fenomendir. Bu biyokimyasal maddeler allelokimyasallar olarak bilinir ve hedef organizmalar üzerinde faydalı ya da zararlı etkilere sahip olabilir. Allelokimyasallar, allelopatik organizmanın metabolizması için gerekli olmayan sekonder metabolitlerin bir alt kümesidir. Negatif allelopatik etkilere sahip allelokimyasallar otçul karşı bitki savunmasının önemli bir parçasıdır. Allelopati, bazı bitkiler, algler, bakteriler, mercan ve mantarların karakteristik özelliklerini taşır. Allelopatik etkileşimler, bitki topluluklarında tür dağılımı ve bolluğu belirlenmesinde önemli bir faktördür ve birçok invaziv bitkinin başarısında da önemli olduğu düşünülmektedir. Belirli örnekler için bkz. Spotted Knapweed, Sarımsaklı Hardal, Casuarina / Allocasuarina spp ve Nutsedge. Çevredeki bitkiler üzerinde herhangi bir kimyasal işlem yapılmadan bir bitkinin mevcut kaynaklardan daha fazla çevreye sağlanması süreci, kaynak rekabetidir.
