Cofferdam
Ein Kofferdam ist ein temporäres Gelände, das innerhalb oder paarweise über ein Gewässer gebaut ist und so konstruiert ist, dass der umschlossene Bereich abgepumpt werden kann, wodurch eine trockene Arbeitsumgebung für die Großarbeit geschaffen wird. Geschlossene Koffer werden häufig für den Bau und die Reparatur von Ölplattformen, Brückenpfeilern und anderen Stützstrukturen, die innerhalb oder über Wasser gebaut sind, verwendet. Diese Kofferdamen sind in der Regel geschweißte Stahlkonstruktionen, mit Komponenten aus Spundwänden, Wales und Querstreben. Solche Strukturen werden in der Regel abgebaut, nachdem die endgültige Arbeit abgeschlossen ist. Für den Dammbau sind in der Regel zwei Kofferdamen gebaut, eine stromaufwärts und eine stromabwärts des vorgeschlagenen Dammes, nachdem ein alternativer Abzweigungstunnel oder -kanal für den Flussfluß vorgesehen ist, um den Dammgrenzbereich zu umgehen. Diese Kofferdamen sind typischerweise ein konventioneller Dammdamm von Erd- und Felsfüllung, aber auch Beton oder etwas Spundwand kann verwendet werden. Typischerweise wird nach Beendigung des Dammes und der zugehörigen Strukturen die nachgeschaltete Kassette entfernt und die stromaufwärtige Kassette wird überschwemmt, wenn die Umleitung geschlossen ist und das Reservoir beginnt zu füllen.
