Troubadour
Ein Troubadour war ein Komponist und Performer der alt-okzitanischen Lyrik im Hochmittelalter. Da das Wort troubadour etymologisch maskulin ist, wird ein weiblicher Troubadour gewöhnlich als Trobairitz bezeichnet. Die Troubadour-Schule oder Tradition begann im späten 11. Jahrhundert in Okzitanien, aber es verbreitete sich später nach Italien, Spanien und sogar in Griechenland. Unter dem Einfluß der Troubadours entstanden in ganz Europa verwandte Bewegungen: der Minnesang in Deutschland, der Trovadorismo in Galizien und Portugal und der der Trouvères in Nordfrankreich. Dante Alighieri in seinem De vulgari eloquentia definiert die Troubadour-Lyrik als fictio rethorica musicaque poita: rhetorische, musikalische und poetische Fiktion. Nach der "klassischen" Periode um die Wende des 13. Jahrhunderts und eine Wiederbelebung des 12. Jahrhunderts ging die Kunst der Troubadours im 14. Jahrhundert zurück und starb schließlich um die Zeit des Schwarzen Todes. Die Texte der Troubadour-Songs befassen sich hauptsächlich mit Themen der Ritterlichkeit und der höfischen Liebe. Die meisten waren metaphysisch, intellektuell und formelhaft. Viele waren humorvolle oder vulgäre Satire.
