Unberührbarkeit wurde in der Nachunabhängigkeit Indiens illegal gemacht, und Dalits im wesentlichen befähigt, obwohl einige Vorurteile gegen sie weitergehen, vor allem in ländlichen Taschen, die von bestimmten anderen rückständigen Kastengruppen dominiert werden.
