Werwolf
Ein Werwolf, auch bekannt als ein Lycanthrop, ist ein mythologischer oder folkloristischer Mensch mit der Fähigkeit, sich in einen Wolf oder ein therianthropisches Hybrid-Wolf-ähnliches Geschöpf zu verwandeln, entweder absichtlich oder nach einem Fluch oder einer Bedrängnis. Der Werwolf ist ein weitverbreitetes Konzept in der europäischen Folklore, das in vielen Varianten existiert, die durch eine gemeinsame Entwicklung einer christlichen Interpretation der zugrunde liegenden indoeuropäischen Mythologie, die sich während des Mittelalters entwickelte, verknüpft sind. Von der frühen Neuzeit aus verbreiteten sich auch Werwolf-Überzeugungen mit dem Kolonialismus in die Neue Welt. Der Glaube an Werwolf entwickelt sich parallel zum Glauben an Hexen, im Laufe des späten Mittelalters und der frühen Neuzeit. Wie die Hexenprozesse als Ganzes, taucht der Prozeß der vermeintlichen Werwölfe in der heutigen Schweiz im frühen 15. Jahrhundert auf und breitet sich in ganz Europa am 16. aus und erobert im 17. und im 18. Jahrhundert.
