Selsyn - elektrische Maschine mit dem Funktionsprinzip ähnlich dem Elektromotor, verwendet als Mess - und Anzeigegerät, das gleichzeitig einige Arbeiten ausführen kann. Es besteht aus zwei Wicklungen, die in einem festen Magnetfeld mit der gleichen Ausrichtung angeordnet sind, durch die der Strom fließt. Beide Wicklungen sind üblicherweise räumlich getrennt, eine befindet sich an der Stelle, an der die Messung durchgeführt wird, und die andere ist dort, wo sich das Objekt befindet. Wenn Sie die Ausrichtung einer der Wicklungen ändern, kippt die andere. Sie finden z. B. Oszillatoren an Kraftwerken, die mit Transformatoren mit Last-Last-Schaltung ausgestattet sind, als Verriegelungspositionsanzeige. Die Sendeantenne befindet sich dann im Schaltergehäuse des Transformators, die Empfangsantenne im Kontrollraum des Objekts. Heute ist es außer Betrieb und wird durch billigere elektronische Lösungen ersetzt. Es wurde vor kurzem im Wasserkraftwerk Porąbka benutzt, wo es den Winkel des Wasserfalls anzeigte. Ferrite werden normalerweise mit 220 V oder 110 V Wechselstrom versorgt.

Selsyn - maszyna elektryczna o zasadzie działania zbliżonej do silnika elektrycznego, używana jako przyrząd pomiarowo-wskaźnikowy, który może jednocześnie wykonać pewną pracę. Złożony jest z dwóch uzwojeń ułożonych w stałym polu magnetycznym o tej samej orientacji, przez które płynie prąd. Obydwa uzwojenia są zwykle odseparowane przestrzennie, jedno znajduje się w miejscu, gdzie dokonywany jest pomiar, drugie zaś tam, gdzie znajduje się mierzony obiekt. Zmiana orientacji jednego z uzwojeń powoduje wychylenie się drugiego. Selsyny spotkać można np. na stacjach elektroenergetycznych wyposażonych w transformatory z przełączaniem zaczepów pod obciążeniem w roli wskaźnika położenia zaczepów. Selsyn nadawczy znajduje się wtedy w obudowie przełącznika zaczepów na transformatorze, selsyn odbiorczy w nastawni obiektu. Współcześnie wyszedł z eksploatacji, wyparty przez tańsze rozwiązania elektroniczne. Jeszcze niedawno był stosowany w przepływowej elektrowni wodnej Porąbka, gdzie wskazywał kąt wychylenia grodzi wodnej. Selsyny są standardowo zasilane napięciem przemiennym zwykle 220V lub 110V.
